Going on vacation tomorrow (well later today) with Bobby and Athena. We are driving to North Carolina to meet the gang.
I thought it would be a good idea to take her by Grease Monkey, get the oil changed and take a look at the fluids before I take her on a long drive.
The guys at Grease Monkey are great. I did have to run down the road to get an oil filter. Of course, it’s a little old for Grease Monkey to stock the filter. Fairfax Auto parts about 4 miles away had it though.
Since I had just gotten the car, the manager let me go down to the pit and have a good look at the undercarriage. It was surprisingly good looking. Fuel and Brake lines and cables all looked good. The transmission and oil pan were clean with no signs of leaks. The whole undercarriage was actually really clean.
We did find one (of eight) bushings on the passenger side tie rod was in bad shape. The others looked good, need to get those replaced. I will have to do an alignment then when I replace the bushings.
Also, it appears the gearbox (I think that’s what it is) is leaking fluid. It’s not on the transmission, but above it on the undercarriage itself. Pretty sure that is were the shifter is located.
Had to replace the front drivers side turn signal bulb and that’s it.
The oil was a little clumpy and no one knows how long its been in there, so we went ahead and did an oil flush. Also, the rear differential fluid looked a little old if not worn, so we replaced that as well.
So far, looking good.
I keep thinking that Bobby and I will go all punk rock on the car and hand paint her and then put skate stickers and write all over her. Whenever I think of the car like that, I see red flames coming from the grill. When I got home and was browsing parts, I ran across a clearance on red LEDs designed for the engine compartment. I went ahead and bought them and we will see if it fits my vision of the flames coming from the grill.
Expect more when we get back from vacation ….
